MFA THESIS

Designing Place: Fostering Sustainability Through Surface Design & Identity

My graduate experience at the Savannah College of Art and Design allowed me to deepen both my artistic practice in illustration and textiles as well as my understanding of how design can inspire meaningful change. With a background in graphic design and years of experience in branding and illustration, I have always been drawn to the power of visuals to connect people to ideas. Combining this design foundation with my love for the natural environment, I developed this thesis as a way to use art for a greater purpose—to advocate for conservation while also reinforcing identity and belonging.

Through surface design and sense of place theory, this collection highlights the biodiversity, architecture, and cultural identity of six regions where I have lived. My goal is to preserve both environmental and cultural heritage by strengthening place-based bonds that encourage sustainable practices in textiles, illustration and beyond.
